UFC 330: Former Two-Division Champ Lucas Fernando Signs for Makhachev vs. Garry Undercard (2026)

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is gearing up for its highly anticipated return to Philadelphia, PA, with the upcoming event, UFC 330, set to take place on August 15. This event marks a significant moment for the organization as it returns to a city it hasn't visited in years, with the last UFC Fight Night in 2019 being a memorable one. The main event will see the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion, Justin Gaethje, defend his title against Edson Barboza, who was knocked out in the main event of that very same night.

However, the real star of the show will be the welterweight and strawweight title fights. Islam Makhachev and Mackenzie Dern are set to kick off their respective title reigns against Ian Machado Garry and Gillian Robertson. This card is stacked with high-profile matchups, and one of the most intriguing additions is the signing of Lucas Fernando, a former two-division MMA champion who missed his initial chance to join the UFC.

Fernando, with a record of 13-3, has an impressive start to his professional career, going 5-0 before losing a decision to Diego Dias in 2020. He then moved up to the middleweight division, joining the LFA and winning a four-fight streak, culminating in a first-round stoppage to win the 185 lbs. belt in 2023. This earned him a shot at a UFC contract on Dana White's Contender Series, where he fell short against Cesar Almeida. Despite this setback, Fernando rebounded with two more wins at middleweight in 2024 and then won the LFA light heavyweight belt with a 63-second knockout.

Another notable fighter on the card is Rafael Tobias, who is returning to the octagon after losing his promotional debut at UFC 326. Tobias, with an 8-0 run and six finishes, has been on a winning streak until he was stopped by Miguel Porto in 2023. He then earned a UFC contract by submitting Jair de Oliveira in May. Tobias will face Lucas Fernando in a light heavyweight bout, adding another exciting fight to the card.

The addition of these matchups to the already packed card brings the total number of scheduled fights to 12, with just a month to go until the event. With the welterweight and strawweight title fights, as well as the highly anticipated return to Philadelphia, UFC 330 promises to be an action-packed and memorable night for MMA fans.
